SBC Launches GHG Assurance Services to Support Member Needs

The Sustainable Business Council (SBC) is excited to announce the launch of our new Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Auditing service, designed in direct response to our members’ growing needs for credible, transparent, and defensible emissions data.

With increasing expectations for climate disclosure and accountability, organizations face more pressure than ever to ensure the integrity of their greenhouse gas inventories. SBC’s GHG Audit service offers a third-party, advisory-level audit to help businesses build trust in their data and strengthen their climate strategies.

What We Offer

SBC’s GHG Audit service includes a thorough, independent review of your greenhouse gas inventory, following the principles of ISAE 3000 (Revised) and aligned with both the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).

Our Limited Assurance audit covers:

  • Reviewing inventory boundaries and emission sources to assess relevance and completeness

  • Evaluating calculation methodologies and assumptions for transparency and defensibility

  • Assessing risk management practices related to GHG data

  • Reviewing supporting documentation for audit readiness

Additionally, clients can choose to include a Reasonable Assurance component, which takes a deeper dive by:

  • Verifying full inclusion of emissions sources within operational boundaries

  • Examining measurement and estimation practices for accuracy and consistency

  • Confirming consistent application of calculation methodologies

What You Can Expect

At the conclusion of your GHG Audit engagement with SBC, you will receive:

ü  A detailed summary of findings, including any gaps or risks related to your GHG inventory

ü  Advisory recommendations to address those issues and strengthen readiness for external verification, regulatory disclosure, or climate target setting

This service is conducted remotely, with collaborative virtual meetings as needed, and typically takes 6–8 weeks to complete.

Why It Matters

Building confidence in your greenhouse gas data helps position your organization for credible climate disclosures, supports investor and customer confidence, and ensures you’re ready to meet growing expectations around climate action.
